Safe Operating Procedures (SOP)

We have made adaptions to the way we work to ensure the wellbeing of all children, parents/guardians and staff. All our procedures are based on guidance from regulatory bodies such as Care Inspectorate, Scottish Government and Health Protection Scotland.

Drop off/Collection

We have made changes to the drop off and collection of all children in our care. We have 3 entrances to minimise congestion among parents/guardians, they are also encouraged to stay outside at all times. Each child is assigned an entrance to ensure there is only 1 child per door at any one time. All staff and parents adhere to 2 metres social distancing and wear a face mask (if their health allows them to).

Cleaning

An enhanced cleaning schedule has been implemented within our setting prior to reopening. We have purchased fogging machines to use at least twice a day. These machines are effective for sanitising, they can kill a range of pathogenic viruses in under 5 minutes. Therefore, leaving surfaces clean and safe for human contact.

Hand Washing

Hand washing is carried out throughout the day with soap and water. All staff and children wash their hands as they enter the setting and frequently throughout the day e.g. when they return from outdoors. Hand sanitiser is provided for all staff throughout the day.

Monitoring the Well-being of all children, families and staff

Prior to reopening the nursery in August 2020 we have completed an enhanced risk assessment. This is to minimise any risk or spreading of diseases. All parents and staff are familiar with this. Parents and staff are provided with questionnaires, allowing us to monitor our procedures and make any changes if necessary.

We have a private Facebook group for parents that we regularly update with any changes and updates of weekly learning opportunities in both the Nursery and the Rainbow Room (Under 3’s).

The Care Inspectorate’s recent report identified the following 

“We were satisfied that the service had appropriate infection, prevention and control procedures in place to support a safe environment for children and families. For example, good handwashing routines were in place and had been adapted in line with current guidance. The playrooms were visibly clean with enhanced cleaning regimes in place to prevent the spread of infection.”
